On the twenty-third day of December...

It is the Eve of Christmas Eve! I love saying that. Michael fell asleep on our bed last night. Russell's side. He accidently wet the bed on Russell's side. So....Russell had to sleep on the couch. :( Today we have many blankets to wash. Today I am going to make stuffing for our Christmas dinner. The leftover stuffing makes a great addition to meatloaf. Now I just need a really good ground beef sale! Not much else is happening. Our extended family is snowed in. We are enjoying a very sunshiny day. I hear tomorrow there is another storm coming. As usual - it will probably rain here.

Kim said...: This morning Mel and Zackary were talking about today being Christmas Eve Eve. Mel asked, "What do you call the day after Christmas?" and Zackary replied with a comment that Jonathan had said the night before, "Christmas Adam." We thought it was funny. I am thankful...

I am thankful for so many things. Cloudy skies, rain - and even snow when I stay home. I am thankful for my health - that I can walk, bend, stretch, think, rest. I am thankful for my family. The little guys and the big guy too! And extended family too! I am thankful for my talents - which allow me to express myself in different ways. I am thankful for my callings - being with the kids in Primary sure lends a different perspective on things. Cub Scouts keeps me on my toes and helps the boys learn what they need to know. I am thankful for so many things. Thank you Heavenly Father for blessing me so much!

A really neat poem to remember President Hinckley

Someone wrote this after the news that President Hinckley had passed. It's beautiful, so I thought it was appropriate to share.

Prophet Passing

I imagine he's running to Marjorie now,
Yes, running, not waving his cane.
I see him embracing his father and mother
While they keep repeating his name.

I see him now meeting his forebears,
Brother Brigham and Joseph are there.
Sweet reunion of prophets, united by service
That only such noble men share.

I see him embraced by the Savior
While Father says, "Good and well done.
So faithful in stalwart endurance, I welcome
My noble, most excellent son."

I then hear the ripples of laughter
As he says the reception's just fine,
But he hopes that he'll get an assignment or two
Since there's no need to waste any time.

I can hear his clear voice in the stillness
At the close of this sweet Sabbath day,
Have faith and move forward — there's work to be done.
President Hinckley would want it that way.

An ode to Aprons.

The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath. Because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven. It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears. From the chicken coop the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids. And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls. In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds. When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner. It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.
