2010 Cub Scout Day Camp - Safari

Before you proceed....WARNING....Lots of pictures! :)
We are having Cub Scout Day Camp this week. Our pack is called the Wildebeasts. The theme this year is Safari.

At our first station the boys worked on a den flag.
The finished product with their station leader and our other adult leader for our pack.

Station 2 consisted of two things. One....making Jungle journals....

and Safari backpacks. The boys had a fun time designing their covers for both.

Then it was lunchtime. A highlight of any day camp experience because you know boys....always hungry!
After lunch we did a service project. The first part was moving 5 of these tables. It actually worked out quite well when all 7 of the boys decided to work together. They are surprisingly strong! I was very impressed!
The second part of the service project was looking for trash on the beach. We did find some garbage and before heading back up we took a few fun pictures for the boys.

Michael being silly with his friend Colton.

This hollowed out tree trunk was a favorite spot for the boys to check out before heading to our next activity.
Our 4th station was a Safari Walkabout. First the boys learned what they needed to go on a hike. Then we went to a designated location and they needed to construct a fort with the materials provided.
On our walkabout.
Building the fort. When completed...the fort consisted of large pieces of wood, ferns, moss, smaller sticks and salal.
Good job guys! Now you know how to make a little fort should you become lost and on your own!
Our last station was a field activity. The first part was tug of war. Here we have team 1.

The station leader is our 14 year old son Donovan - he had a blast by the way and the boys loved him!
And this is team 2. We have 7 boys at camp this year so Brother Luke sided with the weaker side.

To be continued......tomorrow! :)

I think this was in 2004. It was Nephi's first trip to the beach. The boys were all so little! My have they grown.

Meet the Parents...Russell and Candace
It all started for us when Russell left for Cape Town South Africa on a mission. Candace felt inspired to write him - so she did! We wrote for 3 1/2 years. Candace came home from her mission to the Texas Houston East Mission and we dated for 5 months. We married in July 1994 and have been happy ever after!
