The Mercedes Files - Part 2

The boys wanted to take Mercedes to the Forestry Center while she is visiting us. Russell hadn't been there yet--so it was perfect!
We started inside, then outside, then through the inside to go outside behind the center and then back in again!
Oh - and Kim - we love having Mercedes stay with us and be part of the family. Having a little girl around has been really fun!

Welcome!

I am pretty sure she is NOT reading about fish.

"Calling all firefighters! Calling all firefighters!"

"All aboard!" I love this little train station replica inside.

This part of the center has drawers that pull out and are full of all interesting forest life. Michael is examing a drawer now.

Now Mercedes is.

It's Nephi's turn!
Donovan helping Mercedes figure something out with this drawer. They really are very cool.

Back outside on our way to the fire lookout tower. Coming out - the sun was REALLY bright!
Hello Smokey the Bear!

The fire tower.
A passerby took this one of all of us.

Just above where we are in the picture is a room. The next few pictures are in this lookout room.
Nephi and Chris taking a break on the cot.

Michael checking out the radio.

This thingy - we don't know what it is called. Erica - you can tell us please. :) The kids are checking it out.
Russell reading info on the tower.

Mercedes trying her hand at the radio. Did you get through?

Chris and Nephi thumbing through some books in the tower. I bet it got really lonesome up there. A good book helped pass the time I am sure.

Don't fall asleep little miss!

Going down from the tower. There are a lot of steps!

Looking down at all my ant relations!

This really cool bridge is part of the Forestry Center and crosses the Wilson River.

The Wilson River looking east.

Russell looking towards the west.

Walking down one of the trails at the center.

Stopping at another cool bridge for a picture.

While a couple kids used the restroom - a couple more kids wanted to take pictures. I believe Chris took this one.

Nephi studying a bird's nest that had fallen.

Mercedes and Aunt Candace!

Russell and Michael - courtesy of Nephi. :) He will get the hang of the camera someday! Sorry about your head being chopped off Russell.

One of many streams that run into the Wilson River. I thought it was very pretty and refreshing on such a HOT day! Tomorrow is supposed to be hotter.

Checking out a piece of machinery used in logging.

Russell looking through a surveyor's telescope.
"Can I stop now? I've been at this for a while."

"Mom? Are you there?"

Michael practicing his surveyor skills.

Making butter is next to impossible I think!
Got fire?

No really, got fire?

We love the forestry center! How fun--it looks like a beautiful day in Tillamook! It's cute seeing a little girl in the Zaugg family!

I think this was in 2004. It was Nephi's first trip to the beach. The boys were all so little! My have they grown.

Meet the Parents...Russell and Candace
It all started for us when Russell left for Cape Town South Africa on a mission. Candace felt inspired to write him - so she did! We wrote for 3 1/2 years. Candace came home from her mission to the Texas Houston East Mission and we dated for 5 months. We married in July 1994 and have been happy ever after!
