For part of our dinner we had some of the roasted beets I did earlier today. I added a little butter, salt and pepper and zapped them in the microwave just to warm them up. I loved the flavor and am somewhat sad I didn't know I liked these several years ago. Michael loved them. He came back for seconds! Christopher said they tasted like carrots. They kind of do. Donovan and Christopher and Nephi all only ate one piece of beet. Russell on the other hand ran away. Very far away. lol
Now for the Chocolate cake I made for treat tonight. The boys (even beet hater Russell) came back for seconds! I added 2 cups of pureed beets to the batter and they didn't even bat an eye. lol I sure am a sneaky mom/wife. :)

russell ran away? that's funny. my neighbour when i was growing up used to run away when his wife or my mum made this stuffed steak thingie that, imho, tasted like a tire tread wrapped around mushy stove top stuffing and smelled curiously like the same. the smell alone was enough to scare him (and me) off. hopefully russell was, at least, kind enough not to scamper off until the dish was served. i do hope the cake was a huge hit with everyone during tonight's family evening.
hugs...ellie
Sometimes when I make chocolate chip cookies I had smashed white beans to the batter instead of part of or all of the butter/shortening. The cookies' texture is a little different, but everyone still eats them. Great idea using the beets. Keep up the deceptively delicious ideas!
Russell just avoided the beet dish at all costs. lol He said he grew up eating beets and can't stand them. He said he wouldn't say anything bad about them so the kids would at least try them. How very nice. :)
At least Russell did that much. Bri won't touch onions or fish, and now neither will my kids. Picky!! :)
You should be put in time out for putting NASTY beets in yummy chocolate cake!!!
How hilarious about sneaking in the beets! We had them sometimes when I was a kid and they were ok. I can eat them...lol! Have a great day and yeah, the computer is fixed.
