18 July 2008 - A day at Ft. Stevens with the Zauggs...ALL of us!

We left our house a little after 7 a.m. and arrived where everyone was camping just before 9 a.m. People were just starting to get up and around for the day. It was so COLD. There can't be global warming going on at the Oregon Coast - we had a fire and everyone had at LEAST two sweatshirts on at all times.
Good morning Ladies! L-R Wendy (SIL), Andrea (SIL) and Carrie (SIL)
Riven (cousin to boys) is playing in the sand/dirt with Nephi and Michael (both ours).
Christopher had to go on one more hike to earn his Webelos Arrow of Light badge. So...we took a 2 mile hike from camp to the beach and the Peter Iredale ship wreck. This is Russell, Donovan and Christopher walking down the bike path.
Nephi and Candace having a picture break.
About 1/3 of the way down the hike there is this bench. The little boys needed a quick break. Russell took this picture. L-R is Christopher, Michael, Candace, Donovan and Nephi.
Grandpa and Grandma Zaugg snuck up behind us on their bikes. You can't ride well in the sand - so I guess they would be pushing their bikes here.
At the shipwreck. There isn't much left to it after being here for years and years and years. Our boys have never seen it before though and immediately thought it was the remains of a pirate boat. They would. They are into that kind of thing. A LOT! We couldn't explore it much as the tide was in. Michael wanted to climb it.
We snagged a passing beachgoer to take a family picture at the shipwreck. Maybe we will use it for our Christmas picture this year! The wind wasn't even blowing at the beach and we were ready to peel our 2 layers of sweatshirts. L-R is Michael, Christopher, Donovan, Russell, Candace and Nephi.
Christopher and Nephi took off to the top of these really cool sand dunes and proceeded to roll down. Then they got in trouble from Dad. The sand wasn't wet - and came right off - SO - I don't know what that was all about. If I didn't have back problems I would have wanted to roll down it too!
Russell and Candace. I think Russell is squinting cuz the sun was trying to peek out and was kind of bright.
On the way back from our hike - we saw a mommy deer and got quite close. The kids were really excited.
Making foil dinners. L-R Carrie and Andrea are working hard making theirs for their families.
The Zaugg clan. My there are a lot us! Everyone was able to come. What a fun time we had!

I think this was in 2004. It was Nephi's first trip to the beach. The boys were all so little! My have they grown.

Meet the Parents...Russell and Candace
It all started for us when Russell left for Cape Town South Africa on a mission. Candace felt inspired to write him - so she did! We wrote for 3 1/2 years. Candace came home from her mission to the Texas Houston East Mission and we dated for 5 months. We married in July 1994 and have been happy ever after!
