Going to bed and waking up...
Donovan went to bed last night with all body parts functioning properly. He woke up this morning with a tooth that split in half. We get to go to Beaverton this afternoon for a tooth extraction. He really needs braces but we have put it off as the orthodontist said "X" amount of teeth need to come out first. These were baby teeth that needed to come out and the permanent ones needed to come in. Then these needed to be pulled before they could continue with the actual braces. His mouth is a mess. He has lost the teeth needed with the new ones coming in. Now everything just might be in order for the next step! Braces. For now though - we will deal with the split tooth. Bummer.

sounds like something that would happen to me. oh the poor kid. that has to stink. hope he's better now without the split tooth - but hope he kept it. it takes real skill to split a tooth while sleeping.
No he didn't get to keep it. The dentist wouldn't let him. After having gauze stuffed in his mouth for a few hours he was good to go. He finally ate dinner around 8 p.m. last night when the numbness wore off. The dentist was surprised this was the first time he had a shot for numbing. Has the oral health of kids declined that much that a dentist would be surprised to have someone come in with a healthy set of teeth?
Oh My Gosh! However did he do that in his sleep?
I won't even mention the oral decline in my son's teeth. It embarrassing...
Wait, I blogged about that, didn't I?
darn it
actually candance i think it declined in our generation. well on the east coast at least with all the additives put in the water. as far as today, i would imagine more people take their kids to the dentist - and more dentist fill and extract, etc. so it wouldn't surprise me that the dentist was surprised. one of my nephews had a baby tooth filled at age 3! even the old east coast dentists wouldn't do that. i'm glad he's better and was able to get the numbness out relatively quickly. hugs...ellie
